Happy New Year!
Welcome to the 7th edition of the SSCP Business Unit communication update! We thought it would be better, rather than sending several separate e-mails that we try and combine them all together into an easily digestible update. Please take a moment once you have finished reading to share this update with your colleagues and that you can sign up to the SSCP mailing list through the website.

The focus will be hearing the voice of the person. The aim is to identify and share good practice when the adult or child's voice has been heard, and what we can do differently when we haven’t heard their voices.
This webinar is taking place on Wednesday the 29th of January 2025 between 10:00am and 11:30am and you can book your place via the SSCP website.

The Move to tri.x – Initial Communication for Frontline Practitioners
The web link for West Midlands Regional Safeguarding Children Procedures website will change in early 2025. We are working closely with the new provider (Tri.x) to ensure that the new website includes information from our current procedures that are specific to the West Midlands and that all procedures are compliant with Working Together 2023.
The changes will affect practitioners working in the following local authority areas: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Herefordshire, Sandwell, Shropshire, Solihull, Stoke on Trent, Telford and Wrekin, Walsall, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire. If you are a practitioner working in one of these areas, you will need to access procedures via a new link which will be shared with you in due course.
It is very important that all partner agencies take a co-ordinated approach to raising awareness of the change within their organisations. It should be noted that existing shortcuts to the outgoing platform which have been set up on desktops or mobile phones will need to be changed. In addition, arrangements will need to be made to change links currently hosted on staff intranets and other websites. You will receive communication in due course with clear dates for go-live as well as a link to the new procedures site.

The SSCP Website – People’s Stories
As we continue to improve the SSCP website, we’ve seen that the “People’s Stories” page has not been updated in some time. If you have a story that you feel would be appropriate to share on the site, then please let us know at sscpbusinessunit@shropshire.gov.uk – please put “People’s Stories” in the subject header and we can add this quickly to share these stories across the Partnership.

New Domestic Abuse Training Modules
“Domestic Abuse always seems to happen behind closed doors and there is a societal view that it is not our issue to deal with. I am here to help people understand that this is not the case and we need to take action to prevent people dying. People have died in Shropshire and the learning from these case reviews has helped shape this training.”
Harriet McInnes, Domestic Abuse Training Lead for Shropshire Council.
Harriet has worked in the field of domestic abuse for the past 8 years, working front line supporting victims who are subjected to domestic abuse, both in the community and when they have to flee their homes. She has managed the emergency safe accommodation provision in Shropshire before moving to the Local Authority to be part of the Domestic Abuse Prevention Team, to improve the response of people to both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Information on the three new training modules Harriet is delivering in the spring of 2025 can be found on the SSCP website and are also detailed below.
Please encourage your staff to book to attend one or more of these new modules. Please circulate to any colleagues or external agencies you work with as you see appropriate.

Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services – Update on BeeU Contract
The Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System have released an update regarding the continuation of the BeeU Service for Children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin – you can read it below:
The BeeU service, delivered by Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT), provides vital mental health support for children and young people up to the age of 25, including neurodevelopmental assessments for autism and ADHD.
Following careful consideration, the decision has been made to extend the current BeeU contract until the end of September 2025. This additional extension will provide the necessary time to further develop and commission a new and improved Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The ongoing extension will also enable MPFT to continue its partnerships with Healios and Kooth to deliver psychological therapies and online emotional support, ensuring continuity of care during this transitional period.
This decision reflects our commitment to delivering a high-quality, sustainable mental health service for children and young people. It also allows us to build upon the transformation work underway, which includes addressing key areas such as expanding capacity, reducing waiting times, enhancing preventative support in schools and communities, and ensuring services are responsive to the needs of children, young people, and families.
We remain committed to engaging with stakeholders, including service users, families, professionals, and voluntary sector organisations, as we shape the future of CAMHS. Feedback gathered through engagement activities has been instrumental in informing both the immediate extension and the vision for the recommissioned service.
For further information or to provide feedback on the BeeU / CAMHS service, please contact: stw.getinvolved@nhs.net.
To access emotional wellbeing and mental health services, please contact the BeeU Access Team on 0300 124 0093 or visit the BeeU website.
We thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to ensure that every child and young person in our area can receive the right support at the right time in the right place.
