Hoarding is a specific type of self-neglect and it is estimated that 2% - 5% of the population hoard, this means that potentially over 1.2 million people in the UK hoard. In hoarding situations items may be disorganised, taking up lots of rooms but not be able to be used, for example someone might have large piles of newspapers, but they can’t read them because there is so much clutter.
